Richard Stallman Gives a Talk in Paris Next Week (in French) and It's About Freedom

Browser Market Share Europe: May 2024

THE concept of monopoly or even monoculture is relatively easy to explain, even to nontechnical audiences. Recently, or as recently as March and April, Richard Stallman gave many talks across Europe, explaining what freedom means, especially in relation to software. See the above screenshot; that's what freedom doesn't mean; Chrome turned the Web into proprietary bloat (international trend) and Mozilla just plays along.

Dr. Stallman has a page "Reasons not to use Google" and similar pages about Android, Chrome etc. In fact, he keeps updating lists of threats to freedom. The FSF does not mention him much anymore; sometimes GNU does.

Next week he has another talk, which he has only just announced (and the FSF would not).

Repousé à une date ultérieur.Du au congé, il n'était pas possible de l'organiser bien dans le temps disponible.
Abstract: De nombreuses menaces pèsent sur la liberté dans la société numérique. Il s'agit notamment des logiciels non libres, de la surveillance massive et de la censure. Aussi, les programmes non libres sont souvent conçus pour restreindre les utilisateurs, les contrôler ou les manipuler. La Guerre du Partage vise à empêcher les utilisateurs de partager des copies de oeuvres publiés. Les ordinateurs pour le vote rendent les résultats des élections non fiables. D'autres menaces proviennent de l'utilisation de services web, mis en œuvre par des entreprises qui peuvent imposer n'importe quelles conditions. Enfin, la plupart des activités sur internet (hormis celles qui existaient avant 2000) sont précaires, dépendantes de l'autorisation d'une entreprise. Toutes ces menaces trouvent plus ou moins leur origine dans l'utilisation de logiciels non libres. C'est pourquoi le logiciel libre est la première bataille pour la libération de la société numérique.
