GNU/Linux Growing Worldwide (the Story So Far!)
Taking the complete (global) data from statCounter, then averaging over a 6-month sliding window, we can see the global "market share" of GNU/Linux fluctuating between 6 and 7 percent. That's for desktops and laptops, at the very least, and it ought to be noted upfront that statCounter probably does not correctly capture some GNU/Linux clients. We wrote about that yesterday in relation to China with its homegrown operating systems.
What's pleasing about the image below is, caveats notwithstanding about the absolute rather than relative numbers, the trends speak volumes. From 0.6 - 0.7% we've moved to 6 - 7%. Microsoft is unable to stop GNU/Linux. Many people publicly moan about Vista 11 and then delete it. But installing GNU/Linux can be harder if not impossible because of UEFI 'secure' boot, still an outstanding competition crime of Microsoft. It has no real purpose other than obstructing the installation of alternatives to Windows. This needs to be properly challenged in court. █
