SLAPP as an Own Goal
LAST NIGHT we had a good party and it was a good opportunity to take stock of SLAPP gone awry.
Time-wasting (in IRC or elsewhere) has long been an issue, for instance people coming to IRC with the sole intention of provoking, trolling, interjecting illegal statements.
Time-wasting can be "means to an end".
We've begun considering whether the current cycle of Monday posts is worth it. Every Monday since last year we wrote about the abuses we had been subjected to since 2022. A lot of this abuse was enabled by IRC, including "dirt-digging" and phoning our employer.
We recently managed to publish almost 200 posts in just one week at Techrights and we wish to get back to that level of productivity. This causes the jealousy that led some Microsofter to making belittling statements and then SLAPPing in anger (even a woman!). An alleged victim of Domestic Violence, according to himself (he admitted this in IRC), he should have known better. This never ends well. It cannot end well. A distinguished female barrister would beat him over the head.
Anyway, at the moment we're trying to focus 100% of the time (not 99%) on the topics that matter to us, not all this time-wasting. We have better things to with our limited time. Today we remind people what Red Hat (IBM) did one year ago. The FSF has not yet issued any statement on this. β
