Always Taking Things Up a Notch
We're still improving the software we use to run the site, both at the server side and the client side. We grew large enough to custom- or tailor-make our own, based on our particular needs and specs. This way we can keep things lean and secure. The enhancements help in curating news, researching more efficiently, and do sanity checks for published material. This means that over time we can and will become more productive. Today is "backup day" here - that means making backups of backups of important files on the main machines, "vonick" and "bubi" (in case of things like fire, not just faulty hardware). Based on a quick check, they've just exceeded a combined uptime of 600 days: (the hardware is relatively robust)
roy@vonick:~$ uptime 03:06:03 up 335 days, 8:50, 38 users, load average: 0.63, 0.39, 0.53
And "bubi" (which I type this on):
roy@bubi:~$ uptime 03:06:28 up 269 days, 18:18, 2 users, load average: 7.41, 7.39, 7.53
For a month or two we plan to lessen statCounter-based coverage in order to focus more on long-form series and in-depth coverage, sometimes based on leaks. We have plenty of material and many topics we want to cover for many years to come. Nothing will stop us. █
