Rigging Elections is Difficult, Cheating a Little is Not
Avoid social control media, it is the biggest rigger of all
EVERY election (everywhere in the world) there's a little bit of cheating going on. The key word here is "little". There are observers, auditors, and sometimes recounts with a physical (solid) paper trail, but nothing is 100% cheat-proof. Some people, for self-serving purposes, like to take this to the extreme and extrapolate based on one single incident. They'd tell us that it's representative of every single voter or vote. The "rotten apple" becomes a whole grove, at least in the minds of gullible people. As this site puts it: "The main difference between inductive and deductive reasoning is that inductive reasoning aims at developing a theory while deductive reasoning aims at testing an existing theory. Inductive reasoning moves from specific observations to broad generalisations, and deductive reasoning the other way around."
Disinformation is a much easier way to game (or 'cheat' in) elections. This has already happened and it's not even hidden. Social control media is abundant or filled with examples that went "viral", causing some people to cast a vote based on false claims or non-facts. So it makes a lot of sense to focus on propaganda online rather than the odd case of election misconduct.
In our Daily Links we have a dedicated section entitled "Misinformation/Disinformation/Propaganda". We added it over a year ago due to a growing need; we recognised that it had become a very severe issue that merited its own (new) section.
Our suggestion to all people is that they simply abandon social control media (all of it). It's simply not worth the risk. Anybody can fall for anything; we're all susceptible and controllers of social control media certainly have an objective, an agenda, and a desire to manipulate "their" users. █
