Growing Poverty Rates in the United States of America (or Elsewhere) Beneficial to GNU/Linux Adoption
This year in the US GNU/Linux rose to new or unprecedented (record) usage levels judging by the data from statCounter. Let's suppose that what we care about are trends rather than absolute values; in that case, GNU/Linux is certainly rising in terms of adoption. It has had a couple of very strong years and that probably doesn't even count Steam Deck and all sorts of Linux (or Android) devices.
Some days ago an article was published under the headline "How Linux Took Over the World (Without Anyone Noticing)". Nope, many of us did notice...
The mainstream media has been busy producing LLM slop and sponsored puff pieces (product marketing) wrapped up as "news". Which one is worse? Hard to decide.
Toxic politics around the world, including the US, may mean weaker economies. In turn, this means that fewer people will buy a Windows licence (permission to merely rent a copy of Windows) even if it's marketed as something like "hey hi PC", i.e. pure hype and no underlying substance. █
