The Manchester Bees and This Hot Summer
We have had a fantastic week so far this week (not just owing to the weather) and, as expected, we slowed down a bit yesterday and enjoyed some time outdoors. We're now testing the full-site search, which is functional but not yet "camera-ready". It'll help us produce better articles with better references; it'll also help visitors of the site find material they look for, not having to rely on some third party like Google. Let's face it, Google isn't even working like it used to do!
Last week we partied for the sister site (it turned 21) and this week we party for several reasons, not just the Gemini Protocol anniversary.
In my own experience and in my humble assessment, the monopolists (and their front groups, e.g. Linux Foundation) are "losing their narratives". Their propaganda does not charm people anymore. We see pushback against Wayland, for instance, and then Red Hat (IBM) or GNOME people just start attacking journalists. Why? Because those journalists say the truth. Now they attack Liam from The Register. I can relate to him. The same people did the same thing to me.
At the end, I would hope, not only would the journalists win the argument; the community would win against monopolies and monopolists. Monopolies and monopsonies are terrible to everybody. We need to learn how to best communicate these issues (Cory Doctorow is good at that, but he has been rather quiet lately [1, 2]).
Us, as a community, remained strong. I don't wish for it to sound like bragging, but Techrights made powerful allies and alliances over the decades. They look after us just as we look after them. Together we are strong. Together we shall become even stronger. █
