Community Sites Need Genuine Collaboration and True Autonomy
Having just published something in coordination with another group or sort of coauthored by experts in particular areas, we take a moment to remind readers that EPO whistleblowers are working with us to better inform the world. We need whistleblowers and we rely on leaks/suppressed information. This is what makes us unique and actually informative.
This site was created on November 7th, 2006 (Shane kicked things off), so tomorrow it'll be 19 years and 8 months. In the past we coordinated via blog comments for the most part; that was before social control media was a "thing" (2006) and as somebody put it yesterday: "When I moved to a static blog, I also removed comments. Or maybe I did it while I still used Wordpress, I'm not sure. The point is I didn't remove them for technical reasons, I removed them because even in 2012, hosting a comments section had already started being less rewarding than it used to be: the ratio of comments I wanted to read to comments that contributed little — disingenuous, malicious, or just clueless ones — kept getting worse."
Coordination via social control media is out of the question because all the major social control media sites are policed in some centralised fashion, hence manipulated. Even the "Fediverse" is like that; a cabal of powerful admins decide who or what to blacklist across the "Fediverse" (censoredverse).
In 2021 we moved away from Freenode and gained autonomy. We also use encryption for E-mails. We use encrypted (E2EE) voice chat sometimes.
People who want to communicate, federate and organise for effective change need to evolve. We have, for the most part. We'll improve further over time. █
