Speeding Up 'Down Under': Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania...
A couple of weeks ago: GNU/Linux Approaches 5% in New Zealand
GNU/Linux is seen as highly adopted in New Zealand this month and we're trying to make our sites faster to access from "down under" without relying on proxies or CDNs (which are surveillance tools and worse).
As things stand, the best we can do is let people retrieve pages within less than 0.1 seconds since a request is received. The problem will always be remote and distant places; even a well connected Sydney takes several seconds (about 20 times longer) "round trip". Years ago we set up a proxy in Tasmania, but the person who ran it on an Orange Pi vanished. He said the proxy was warming up the device very fast (faster than he could cool it down). █
