Steal Xen from GNU/Linux, Become Microsoft’s Partner of the Year

Posted in GNU/Linux, Microsoft, Novell, SLES/SLED, Virtualisation, Xen at 3:10 pm by Dr. Roy Schestowitz

Yes, it’s true. Citrix Systems, the company which grabbed control of XenSource roughly a year ago and then bent it in Windows' direction, is nothing less than Microsoft’s latest Partner of the Year. Sounds like a reward more than an award.

Today, Citrix Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTXS), the global leader in application delivery infrastructure, announced it has won the 2008 Microsoft Partner of the Year Global ISV – Infrastructure Special Recognition award. This award recognizes the global independent software vendor (ISV) for superior technology, delivering innovative infrastructure solutions based on Microsoft platforms.

Novell, by the way, is part of these virtualisation pacts as well. This new post from Network World reminds us just why

Another downside is that Hyper-V is sadly lacking much support for Linux, with the exception of super special partner Novell’s Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10.

What we have here is a case of Novell, Microsoft and Citrix+Xen versus VMWare (and just about everybody else). This has been clear for quite some time.

just to clear things up a little bit: go to the citrix website and see for yourself why MS loves Citrix. Citrix simply is much better at virtualization than MS ever was… Citrix is the proven master of it. If you ever had the chance to see a Citrix “Installation” you simply don´t want to EVER go back to anything else… Citrix has one Idea: Install cheap and “unbreakable” hardware at the user end and put all in the Data Center ( Virtualization is just a small part of the Solution). MS and all others including Linux just try this. If you don´t believe me just look at their Call Center Solutions on their website. Ever done a rollback whit Citrix ? It actually is “fun”. If i think something like this would happen on a standard, old Win XP or Linux System… Ahh and naturally Citrix looks to lower the Cost of your Datacenter and gives you Linux where it works, so naturally they try to bolster XEN, it gives them a solution apart from MS.

Citrix recently insisted (and even spoke out in thre press only to say) that it’s not a virtualisatyion company. I think there’s some mixing of terms here. We’re talking about server consolidation here.
