Mark Shuttleworth: “If Windows API Becomes the Default on Linux Then What is the Point of [GNU/]Linux?”
Mr. Shuttleworth is a very clever guy. So why does he keep the Windows API (Mono) inside Ubuntu GNU/Linux?
“Every line of code that is written to our standards is a small victory; every line of code that is written to any other standard, is a small defeat.”
–James Plamondon, Microsoft Technical Evangelist. From Exhibit 3096; Comes v. Microsoft litigation [PDF]

This post makes no sense. The story contradicts the headline without any further explanation or context.
Is the point of the story that Shittleworth has contradicted himself?

Not quite.
On several occasions he spoke about how Ubuntu/GNU/Linux should be unique and not rely on Wine, for example. But he is allowing Mono to become part of Ubuntu.

Well, if I (and many others, and i think the majority) switched to Linux was to get away from the atrocious win32/64 api… Now, some folks are trying to inject those api’s into Linux… What makes me feel relieved are the community oriented distributions (note Debian and Fedora, mainly). These distros will not succumb to “inventions” and experimentation on Linux.

It’s more complicated than that inside Debian, but that’s a story I would rather not touch as it upsets many people (who comment here).
