Bonum Certa Men Certa

Simpler Systems, Better Systems

I have nothing against systemd. Oh really? Is this why you removed systemd-journald.service? I need a system I can understand.

Summary: "We're proud to say that after 16 years of Tux Machines and nearly 14 years of Techrights (almost 30 years combined, with daily updates) we never had any known security incidents."

THIS MORNING, or just a couple of hours ago, we finally deleted the databases on localhost, having verified that the new database container is both reliable and in good integrity (data-wise). The container runs in Alpine, which is rejecting overly complex packages, including systemd. Alpine had run nonstop for over 500 days before we rebooted it for updates. It's very reliable, very simple, and obviously predictable. Following the database migrations we hope to move the rest of the site to it, then belatedly add SSL. This may take some time, but we're halfway there. We also plan to modularise different parts of the site (Wiki, Drupal, WordPress) for improved security. We're proud to say that after 16 years of Tux Machines and nearly 14 years of Techrights (almost 30 years combined, with daily updates) we never had any known security incidents.

"We also plan to modularise different parts of the site (Wiki, Drupal, WordPress) for improved security."This is one among several things we've worked on at the back. Hopefully we'll soon introduce our intern, who plans to write about ethics in software. She's a GNU/Linux user who has a passion for justice. This is what Techrights has long been about.
