GNU/Linux Surges to Almost 4% Worldwide on Desktops/Laptops, 2% in Latest Steam Survey (Ubuntu Not the Top Distro)
The latest (notice the distro on top of this list, a community distro)
THE "Steam Hardware & Software Survey" for November 2023 does not tell us how many people use GNU/Linux but how many people use Steam (DRM) and also GNU/Linux - not quite the same thing. Free software adopters tend to strongly dislike and reject adoption of DRM.
statCounter, however, is measuring the number of clients on the Web (estimation). It says that GNU/Linux now stands at about 3.5% worldwide, or double that if one also counts ChromeOS, on desktops/laptops.
GNU/Linux is growing. Perhaps this is why Microsoft-connected groups attack the founders and key people behind the operating system ("decapitation" tactics). We're seen false accusations against Linus Torvalds and his close associates (Ted is one), not to mention Richard Stallman and his associates (notably Mr. Oliva and Prof. Moglen).
We've fortunately bet on a winning platform. It didn't have to turn out this way but it did... and now there are mobsters trying to take the founders down, ripping apart the leadership by any means/methods available, even illegal ones. The motivation is to create an artificial vacuum, then fill it up with hostile and subversive elements. █
