Undoing Enshittification of Gulag Noise (Google News)
Microsoft tries to turn vandalism into profit
THE other day we mentioned how Gulag Noise had been gamed to death by trash sites like "BNN Breaking", which is just chatbot spew, bottom-feeding if not plagiarising other people's work. The following day "BNN Breaking" was gone (delisted) from Gulag Noise. Months beforehand we complained that results in languages other than English accounted for almost 50% of the results returned for English queries. Weeks later that stopped entirely. We covered that about half a dozen times, including in October.
We don't know if Gulag Noise staff (what's left of it; many layoffs lately) reads what we write about the disservice, but either way, it seems like there's at least some effort to cull the "shit" and improve. Microsoft created a pandemic of SPAM not just in E-mail protocols but also the Web. Microsoft also attacks the Internet as a whole.
Enshittification of the Web (and the Net) can be partly attributed to Microsoft, basically trying to sell tools whose harms are very well known even to Microsoft employees (some, to their credit, choose to become whistleblowers).
Microsoft is easily the shittiest company in the tech world. █
