Forget About India's and Pakistan's Nuclear Weapons and Armament Race, They Need to Abscond Windows and Microsoft (Security Swiss Cheese)
Can Imran Khan escape detention? Can Pakistan's population escape Microsoft's digital jail? The latter is a tacit detention of nearly 250 million people, not one controversial politician.
Pakistan is gradually (but quickly) moving away from Windows. Fewer than 20% of Web users there are estimated to be Windows users.
Pakistan, which has nuclear weapons, has a strange relationship with the West. Imran Khan has made some headlines lately, but not for good reasons. He defied Western powers, but at the same time he tried to pursue or woo other superpowers.
This article (and site) will try not to get 'political' but instead focus on the tech aspect of things.
For those who don't know, Pakistan's Imran Khan is a former cricketer, who had become a friend of Julian Assange and appeared publicly as a strong proponent of Wikileaks about a decade ago (well before his arrest). Pakistan is also believed to be a catalyst of Chinese interests in the region, the least of which worries India.
According to statCounter, GNU/Linux is installed on about 15% of desktops/laptops in India and, taking mobile into account, Windows is down below 15% (in Pakistan it's less than 20%).
There has been a lot of talk about the next nuclear conflict (first in almost or over 80 years; it last happened in 1945). It used to be common to hear that the next nuclear conflict will be India versus Pakistan (and/or vice versa). Almost nobody talks about digital warfare, hybrid wars, and "cyberattacks". Both countries would be wise to remove Windows as soon as possible, irrespective of the local party politics (which we won't get into here).
It's not being "pro-India" or "pro-Pakistan". It's about being against back doors. Nations and pertinent computer users in these nations deserve to have full control over their computing. Anything else is... "Recall". █
