When Microsoft Started the Chatbot/LLM Hype ("Bing Chat") Google Had 98% of the Largest African Market, Now It Has nearly 100%
In Nigeria, Microsoft laid off hundreds last month (amid sharp growth for GNU/Linux in Africa) and shut down entire operations. It's a kind of "exit", or so it may seem on the surface. It seems like Microsoft has totally lost the country to Google despite bribing officials there.
Yes, that's about 99.5% now!
Android is also reaching new highs there this month:
While we're not arguing that Google Search [sic] and Android will emancipate these people, we certainly can say that it destroys the Microsoft "hegemony" and Microsoft's business viability, as it profoundly relies on "Monopoly Rents". Nigeria is almost 3 times bigger than Germany and its population is about 3 times bigger.
Nigeria, to Microsoft, should be a very strategic country. But it seems to have given up. How long before/until the next time Bill Gates packs up a suitcase and hitches a plane that's not the Lolita Express to meet Nigerian officials? █
