Free Software Projects Need to Chase Away Men Who Attack Women Rather Than The Women Who Complain
AS noted only moments ago, some elements in the Free software community corporations want us to think that appointing totally inadequate women would somehow benefit women. We saw that in Sirius Open Source, where women with absolutely no professional background in computing (let alone in Free software) were hired to basically shadow the man whom they served sexually. Yes, women as in plural. 3 of them!
The real Free software community must recognise that this is a very big problem. Adding women to "meet quotas" if these women lack the relevant aptitude tends to lead to a horrible stereotype; sooner or later men and women alike might feel like many women in "FOSS" are there for the wrong reasons, e.g. because of some boyfriend like Nicolas Dandrimont.
Discrimination of any kind and some of the "DEI" programs (not all) are a negative thing, even if it is "positive" discrimination that propels undeserving people to the top. It's exceptionally bad because it is, in effect, punishing the people who do the hard work, including women who actually code and have Computer Science degrees.
And here comes the toughest part. In recent years we saw men who attack women promoted to top roles in some companies and projects. They may pretend (even very well) to care about women's rights, but their track record suggests otherwise. We've seen how women who express concerns about such men get marginalised, whereas the offenders get protected. We saw that in Google too (Andy Rubin). A just society holds people accountable rather than covers up such blunders while compensating (i.e. rewarding) the offenders █
