Germany One of Many Countries Where Microsoft's Bing Lost Market Share After All That LLM Nonsense (Bing Chat and Further Rebrands/Renames)
Yesterday: Vista 11 Adoption Unusually Low in Germany and It's Going Down, Not Up
There are considerable migrations away from Microsoft in Germany and this past week we wrote a number of articles about Germany, based on statistics that are shared by statCounter.
Today is the last day of June, so checking search engine trends over there one last time simply reveals what we see in so many places: in November 2022 Microsoft pretended Google was "doomed" because of LLMs. Months later there were mass layoffs in Bing, then there were more rebrands (to mask or distract from the disappointing reception), and finally we see figures like these: (in Germany)
So Microsoft wasted billions of dollars building models nobody really wants and it still wastes billions of dollars processing queries made for these models to produce junk. The media is falling out of love with this LLM fantasy, so it seems like money down the drain. It seems so because that's just exactly what's happening. openai.com traffic plunged 60% last month. There is also antitrust investigation in the making (EU), if that wasn't bad enough... █
