THERE is a whole bunch of nonsense online, including mindless opinions and recycled old stuff, but this one is new and it adds the angle of Evan Gershkovich in Russia.
Robinson says: "First, there was a very real chance that we were going to win the extradition case on this first amendment ground because, in our view, the US could not provide a satisfactory assurance about protection under the First Amendment."
"But the other point that people miss too, is that the US was, I think concerned about him being extradited and having a very public Espionage Act prosecution of a journalist in an election year."
She then mentions Gershkovich. The video isn't long and it's worth listening to. Robinson is an excellent counsel and she played a key role in getting leading politicians to agree on the release of her client, Assange, who really ought to get a presidential pardon (that would tackle this mess). Assange's birthday is only hours away (the judge wished him a happy birthday in advance; he has probably left Canberra already. They want privacy for recovery. █
