In Thailand, Microsoft and Mozilla Now Have the Same Share (Roughly)
Recent: Thailand: GNU/Linux Up to 6% of Desktops/Laptops, According to statCounter | In the First 6 Months of 2024 Thailand Moved to GNU/Linux, Not to Windows Vista 11
Microsoft's grip on Thailand slipped a very long time ago. From 99% of the "market share" (for operating systems) Microsoft fell to 25% by 2017.
Thailand has an economy that does not depend on oversized laptops with 8-core CPUs. Many people there use Android and so the market share of MSIE diminished while Edge gained only 3% of the browser market, i.e. same as Mozilla Firefox. From what we can gather, it's also quite revealing that Samsung's own browser now has greater share than Microsoft's. Chrome is at roughly 70%.
Thai GNU/Linux users aren't hard to find online these days (even in IRC). In the past they had their own distros (Phayoune Secure Linux or Burapha Linux Server) and a Thai Language Extension, not to mention User Groups that cater for UNIX/Linux geeks. Perhaps one day the share of GNU/Linux in Thailand will be similar to India's. █
