Hackaday ☛ Ethernet History: Why Do We Have Different Frame Types?
Although Ethernet is generally considered to be a settled matter, its history was anything but peaceful, with its standardization process (under Project 802) leaving its traces to this very day. This is very clear when looking at the different Ethernet frame types in use today, and with many more historical types. While Ethernet II is the most common frame type, 802.2 LLC (Logical Link Control) and 802 SNAP (Subnetwork Access Protocol) are the two major remnants of this struggle that raged throughout the 1980s, even before IEEE Project 802 was created. An in-depth look at this history with all the gory details is covered in this article by [Daniel].

Dennis Crouch/Patently-O ☛ Old Dog, New Tricks: Government Defends 200-Year-Old ODP Doctrine Even Under Modern Statutes
The debate over obviousness type double patenting continues. Most recently, the U.S. Government has filed its brief in opposition to certiorari in Cellect v. Vidal.
In its decision, the Federal Circuit ruled that the Congressionally mandated “patent term guarantee” that adjusts patent monopoly term to account for undue USPTO delay (known as PTA) triggers a risk that a later-expiring patent monopoly will be invalidated due to obviousness-type double patenting (ODP). TTAB Blog ☛ TTAB Reverses Section 2(d) Refusal of "LendingOne & Design" Over LENDERS ONE Due to Differences in Mortgage Lending Services
Two Section 2(d) refusals reversed in one week? I kid you not. The Board overturned a refusal to register the mark shown below, for various mortgage lending services, finding confusion unlikely with the registered mark LENDERS ONE for "cooperative mortgage lending services" [LENDERS disclaimed]. The Board found the marks to be highly similar, but the second, third and fourth DuPont factors favored the applicant, and the cited mark was somewhat weak. In re LendingOne, LLC, Serial No. 97627670 (August 20, 2024) [not precedential] (Opinion by Judge Angela Lykos).
