New Year's Resolutions Scoreboard
THE new year began exactly 7 weeks ago. In the first 5 weeks of the year many Brits died and the media barely talks about it because talking about it raises all sorts of questions the establishment would rather not address. Since I was last ill this site has published 8,161 pages/articles. Next month it'll be 1.5 years since we upgraded to our own SSG. We only wished we had done so sooner. It solved many technical issues, more so in a Web full of bots and malicious scrapers. Uptime is now very close to 100%.
At the start of the year I promised myself to sleep more (so far, so good!) and to still try to publish about 20 items per day, put an end to very short posts (e.g. meme only), improve Gemini accessibility, and a few smaller things. The goal is to improve clarity, accessibility, speed, and accuracy. The site used to be a lot slower and less active. WordPress is heavy and cumbersome to use.
It's difficult to say the "New Year's Resolutions" were all met or that every item in the list got fulfilled. But we are improving over time and it has been getting harder to censor/intimidate us. We've grown a lot in IRC, we've established a network of allies, and our audience continues to grow. We can envision doing this for a decade or more to come; if the Web 'dies', we'll continues doing the same in whatever protocols supersede it. Geeks can easily adapt to technological change because they need not hire geeks to do it for them. █
