GNU (and the FSF) Still Changing the World

Desktop Operating System Market Share in Turkey - April 2025

The sister site is about to turn 21 (we've already put up some decorations at home for it) and the FSF, which recently 'endorsed' its founder Dr. Stallman, is turning 40 very soon.

GNU (and the FSF) changed the world. Yesterday in Turkey a presentation was given about Software Freedom.

No Tux logo in there.

Windows has less than 20% of "the market" there.

If people said back in 1983 that "gnu was just a hobby, nothing like UNIX" (nobody said that), we'd look back and laugh. Today, in 2025, GNU powers almost everything (along with Linux; British Army officers won't change this) but at the same time it's underfunded, underappreciated, and unknown to many people.

You realise those planes run GNU, right? I thought they ran Linux. No, that's just a kernel.
