GitHub is Proprietary, Controlled by Microsoft, and GPL Violation Warehouse
Some hours ago the FSF celebrated that "IRS tax filing software [will be] released to the people as free software" (CC0 1.0 Universal -- No Copyright -- as per all government program, an associate notes).
In general this is good news, but Microsoft's GitHub is not the best way to publish (GNU gave it an "F"*). So asserts this associate, saying that the licence is the important part.
As readers are aware and as we've only just said, there's plenty of sinister stuff going on at GitHub, aside from the GPL violations.
As a reminder:
- Microsoft GitHub Exposé — Part XXVII — The Future of OpenAI May Depend on the Fate of GitHub's Copilot in Court ($9 Billion in Damages)
- Microsoft GitHub Exposé — Part IV — Mr. MobileCoin: From Mono to Plagiarism... and to Unprecedented GPL Violations at GitHub (Microsoft)
- Microsoft GitHub Exposé — Part VIII — Mr. Graveley's Long Career Serving Microsoft's Agenda (Before Hiring by Microsoft to Work on GitHub's GPL Violations Machine)
- Arrest/Police Report for Microsoft’s Chief Architect of GitHub Copilot, Balabhadra Alex Graveley
And a 'pocketbook' timeline:
Having said all that, it's good that this software is being liberated. "This can lead to great things," the associate adds, "recall the release of FOIA VistA!"
"Selection of Microsoft GitHub may have been done out of ignorance or malice," the associate concluded.
The corporate media, a lot of which gets paid by Microsoft and by Bill Espteingate, likes to confuse people, conflating Git with GitHub. Some employers even erroneously assume that people who don't have an account at Microsoft (GitHub) cannot possibly have any code. █
