BetaNews Appears to Have Fired All Of Its Staff
Even serial sloppers:
BetaNews is hiding behind ClownFlare, so it's difficult to figure out if the site's host or owner has just changed*. It's possible that rather than the site being restored (possibly twice) from an outdated full image (a week old, even more) the site was copied to a new owner and the differences made in the last week didn't "cross over" (even after the switch from the old to the new). That would help explain their latest cryptic statement and what looks like phantom accounts.
Domain registrar (for BetaNews) is godaddy.com, says Netcraft, so it won't be easy to see if the records changed. DNC Holdings, Inc. may be the registrar instead, but either way, it'll be hard to spot the formal change of ownership. There are no details beyond that.
BetaNews goes back to the days of Windows 98 (yes, that's how old it is) and its extensive archive is seen as an "asset" - albeit not one they are willing to expand upon with anything other than cheap/free/low-cost slop. They try to "monetise" with paid placements, as we showed here before, but that probably proved to be insufficient, not financially viable and so on.
Look at the bias:
It's a lot of Microsoft keyword-stuffing like this. The latest LLM slop is entitled "Will Windows 10 stop working? See if your PC will survive the switch to Windows 11" (no mention of GNU/Linux or anything other than Windows; they've long enabled Microsoft's monopolies and narratives).
If the site went away, not much of value would be lost. █
