The Tower of Babel
This morning: Jean-Claude Van Linus (even the title of the release's announcement is "hallucinated" now)
Something for everyone:
![GitHub PRs; Slop bug report; Slop bugfix; DRM; Support for vapourware; Non-code patches, such as CoC file; Claude, Rust, CoPilot, Gemini, handcoded C, trainee, diversity candidate without experience, failed geneticist who can slop some NSA code for secure [sic] boot](/i/2026/11/linux-kernel.png)
More is not better.
Better isn't attained by more.
More salt can spoil the broth.
More passengers can be "over capacity".
In Linux, we need reliable stuff.
In a kernel, we need trust and trust requires audits.
Audits are feasible when size remains small.
Trust depends on human (and accountable) contributors.
Linux has a new RC, but it's spelled out as "Linus" in the title. Very sloppy.
Linux has (had) about 1,000 commits per day. That's about 50 per hour *. A commit per minute, made by bots, means humans cannot keep up. Maybe that is the goal.
Linux grows faster than ever**. 'Idiots' like you and me who want a text editor and an odd browser do not benefit from this growth.
Now Linus can sip coffee and enjoy bossing bots instead of people***.
Have lots of fun, Linus. █

* Linux 7.4 Merge Window Saw Nearly 20k Commits, Source Tree Approaching 42 Million Lines
** The Linux 7.4 Merge Window Is Easily The Largest In Kernel History
*** "Another reason why Linus Torvalds is perhaps also less critical against the usage of "AI" to produce code is that he himself has not produced any code at all for many years. Rather, he's just supervising and managing the developers who actually produce code. Perhaps using an "AI" is not much different for Linus from what he has been doing for so long now." -No Linus Torvalds, you are not just using a new and interesting tool
