ChromeOS is Google's cloud-connected desktop operating system (OS). This web-app-focused OS powers mostly inexpensive Chromebooks—low-cost laptops for people with basic computing needs. Because it runs on affordably priced laptops and is easy to use with tie-ins to Google's online productivity apps, ChromeOS is excellent for students and casual computer users. ChromeOS's Android app compatibility has given the OS new life and access to millions of new software choices, and the support for those apps is improving. It doesn't have the power of Windows or macOS, but not everyone needs that power. For the right user, ChromeOS is a strong choice.

Bringing new community members on board and helping them get started is an essential part of our work.
Computers can do great things for people, but like any other tool, they can also be used for evil.
So we, as software developers, need an ethical code.
Basically, it is a commitment that we will not build evil things for evil people. That is, when we sit down to build some software, we always do so with ethical standards. If someone asks us to violate those standards, we refuse or we walk away.
For this to work, the ethics have to be simple and clear.
First, no matter how many instructions are executed for any type of automation, the code must always be triggered by humans. Not someone, or anyone, but the actual people involved.
At Pulumi we read every single error message that our API produces. This is the primary mechanism that led to a 17x YoY reduction in our error rate. You’re probably wondering how reading error messages make them go away.
On the surface, the trust framing seems to be about belonging, or its opposite, exclusion. It implies that if you don't trust your co-workers, you suspect them of malign intent. Organisational dysfunction, it follows, is a Hobbesian state of nature where everyone is out for themselves: Expect your colleague to be a back-stabbing liar out to get you.
With all that said, I think we should challenge these from time to time. I sincerely like "boring": these are prudent approaches to risks many tech companies, especially in the late aughts, run into. My main challenge to this is that these are about risk management and avoiding the floor, rather than reaching for (or breaking) a ceiling. "Boring" is a good strategy if you think the bigger existential risk for your company is that Product & Engineering will flop around, enamored with their cleverness, and fail to ship a reliable product on a reliable schedule. But if you're more afraid of the business risks of shipping average product, at an average cadence, over the course of years, you should consider deviating, at least sometimes, from the playbook whose entire definition is "optimized for safety."
I haven’t seen Expand-Contract written about in some years, and I think it is a great way of performing database schema migrations without the need for application downtime. I also realised that it also applies to microservices and service-to-service communication in general.
As working programmers, you need to keep learning all the time. You check out tutorials, documentation, Stack Overflow questions, anything you can find that will help you write code and keep your skills current. But how often do you find yourself digging into academic computer science papers to improve your programming chops?
While the tutorials can help you write code right now, it’s the academic papers that can help you understand where programming came from and where it’s going. Every programming feature, from the null pointer (aka the billion dollar mistake) to objects (via Smalltalk) has been built on a foundation of research that stretches back to the 1960s (and earlier). Future innovations will be built on the research of today.
If you have used Codespaces before, you know how powerful an automated development environment can be. The downside of CodeSpaces is that you can’t control everything and run your development environment anywhere you want. For at least five decades, Moore's law consistently delivered increasing numbers of transistors. Equally significant, Dennard scaling led to each transistor using less energy, enabling higher clock frequencies. This was great, as higher clock frequencies enhanced existing software performance automatically, without necessitating any code rewrite. However, around 2005, Dennard scaling began to falter, and clock frequencies have largely plateaued since then.
The PC will come with Windows 10 IOT Enterprise LTSC, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 operating systems support.

Ask western cybersecurity intelligence analysts who their “favorite” group of foreign state-sponsored hackers is—the adversary they can’t help but grudgingly admire and obsessively study—and most won’t name any of the multitudes of hacking groups working on behalf of China or North Korea. Not China’s APT41, with its brazen sprees of supply chain attacks, nor the North Korean Lazarus hackers who pull off massive cryptocurrency heists. Most won’t even point to Russia’s notorious Sandworm hacker group, despite the military unit’s unprecedented blackout cyberattacks against power grids or destructive self-replicating code.
Instead, connoisseurs of computer intrusion tend to name a far more subtle team of cyberspies that, in various forms, has silently penetrated networks across the West for far longer than any other: a group known as Turla.

In the screencap below, the date May 17 appears with “181 GB DATA” in red. In the post itself, which first appeared on or about May 12, they claim to have 194 GB of data, none of which has been leaked.

This week was a heartbreaking one for those of us who believe in the freedom to fully control our bodies, lives, and futures. Anti-abortion legislators pushed their extremist agenda in three states simultaneously, and as they did they showed the world exactly who they are: legislators bent on cutting off access to health care who won’t let public opinion or democratic principles get in their way.
Just a few weeks ago, we saw the will of the 59 percent of Nebraskans who support access to abortion prevail as legislators rejected a proposed abortion ban. But not content with regular process, anti-abortion extremists turned around and proposed an amendment to an existing bill, attaching an abortion ban to legislation that would ban gender-affirming care for youth. With this move, they confirmed what we have long known. Anti-abortion and anti-trans movements have the same goal: to deny us the ability to make our own decisions and define our own path. This is about control, plain and simple.
