Windows Kills Children
THE other day in "Windows TCO" we filed this news report which said: "Saint Anthony Hospital confirmed the [breach] via a statement published this week, saying files containing patient information had been copied by an unknown attacker. The hospital didn't specify the nature of the stolen data but confirmed no medical or financial records were accessed."
Two of us independently noticed this report and the reaction was more or less the same. In IRC we said that Windows kills kids (we did a whole series about this 4 years ago) and an associate said: "Hospital administrators show no remorse for infecting children's hospital with Microsoft Windows" while "Biden is covering for chairman Bill" (Gates).
Even when Microsoft itself (directly) is responsible for security breaches in the Biden Administration (a months-old scandal; they had been trying to hide this) we see a persistent insistence on using Microsoft and even giving it bailouts, i.e. taxpayers' money given to Microsoft by the billions.
Why? Are you bailing out the rich again? No lessons learned from 2008?
It meanwhile turns out that German railways run on Windows 3.11! And no, not a typo here! 3.11. In 2024! This has made the news again [1, 2], showing the high cost of vendor lock-in. Windows 3.11 is MS-DOS, so they're basically still using unpatched old DOS in 2024.
Now imagine that many hospitals, especially private practices, still use Windows 2000 and Windows XP. No, it's not a joke. It's actually happening. Bear this in mind next time you provide medical data to Windows apologists, who sooner or later become part of a botnet, together with your very personal data. Sometimes kids are impacted too. Does the age matter? Yes, because they're too young to consent to this. You cannot victim-blame. █
