Twitter is (in Many Ways) Already Dead
MORE than 2 years ago I quit Twitter entirely (after I had already gone "write-only" in June 2020, i.e. 4 years ago; I explained this decision yesterday).
Social control media is highly corrosive not just to society (as in, human civilisation) but also to the planet. There's no lack of examples of the harms done to animals, nature, and climate for "likes" or similar. Like moving around stones for "Instagram" photos or destroying flora for fun. Some even abuse animals (fauna), either willingly or not willingly (or even unwittingly).
Social control media is a mistake. Social control media wasted a lot of my time and over a decade of my life. When I tell people to quit social control media I speak not as a hypocrite but as a recovering former "user" (the word user is typically chosen in the context of drug use).
Social control media is bad and there's no benign social control media, just some lesser-evil clones. But lesser evils are still not benign. We'd like to see the Web going back to JavaScript-free pages and RSS feeds. We should be able to syndicate/federate without third parties that 'curate' (censor/incite) and we need to foster fair media composed by informed people rather than cellphone junkies writing from the toilet bowl about things they have no clue about.
Twitter has deteriorated greatly. Web analytics have shown this decline and what they're measuring various different things, albeit the trend is always the same. It's down all the way. █
