Roy and Rianne's Righteously Royalty-free RSS Reader (R.R.R.R.R.R.) Version 0.2 is Released
Tux Machines' last party was this past Friday (in the evening) and today commences somewhat of a heatwave - the first of this year. We plan to be out and about, enjoying the sun and the water.
They say summer "officially" started some days ago (subjective criteria exist for seasons) and for us it looks like a promising season of development and growth. Today (only hours ago) I upgraded to the new version of Roy and Rianne's Righteously Royalty-free RSS Reader (R.R.R.R.R.R.). So far it works well. It helps us identify, analyse and curate news based on 1,000+ RSS/Atom feeds.
The latest code is available for download. Look under "rrrrrr"

* Changes include better (hopefully proper) handling of If-Modified-Since and If-None-Match HTTP Request Headers.
* The underlying database structure has been modified to accommodate (hopefully proper) handling of those two headers. The ETag and Last-Modified HTTP Response Headers are kept in a separate table and the foreign_keys PRAGMA is set so that cascading deletions happen. The PRAGMA has to be set each and every session.
* Managing TTL has been improved.
* Redirected feeds are annotated more visibly. When a feed reditects, a blue dot appears next to everything else on the title line and contains a hyperlink to the new location.
* A number of symbol indicators have been changed in CSS. Hopefully that improves clarity and readabilty.
* A number of titles attributes, revealed by hovering, now provide more information.
"The Software Angle" of Techrights is very important for our future direction. As journalism dries up (outlets shutting down) we'll need better tools to find what's left and it's important to be certain it's not some LLM-generated slop. █
