Microsoft is Losing Its Grip on Bulgaria
According to statCounter, GNU/Linux is up again today, it now stands at 4.01% globally (it was 4.00% yesterday, not counting Chromebooks) and the FSF's Board list is extended by about 50%. It's now starting with an (originally) Bulgarian lady, Christina Haralanova, so now may be a good time to look into statistics from Bulgaria. statCounter isn't great, but for this kind of thing it's probably the best we have that's publicly accessible.
So Windows usage in Bulgaria seems relatively high on desktops/laptops (compared to the global average), but many people nowadays use Android, so Windows sank from 99% in 2009 to just 28.5% this month. Google's Android is measured at almost 57%. Vista 11 adoption is exceptionally low (less than 15% of Windows users after 3 years "out there"!) and less than it was when the year began. That should alarm Microsoft. Like in many other countries, Bing usage fell since all the LLM hype began so basically it's bad news for Microsoft again.
Bulgaria seems to be gradually weaning itself off Microsoft, but it's not liberation if Google makes the gain.
Let's embrace our new overlords at the FSF, starting with Christina. Yes, she lives in Canada now, but we covered Canada many times before. This is the first time we write about Bulgaria, except in relation to EPO corruption. █
