The Patent Distortion: Promotion of Illegal Agenda (and Nobody Could Mention Industrial Action/Strikes at EPO, Protesting Illegal Agenda)

Summary: When one searches for news about the EPO -- or about patents in general -- a vast majority of the results is just misleading junk and self-promotional spam (webspam); this has never been so bad and it merits a detailed response

LAST week we published this second part of a series which had started a week(end) earlier. We condemn what happened to the state of journalism and the gaming of Gulag Noise ("Google News"), which doesn't seem to mind the manipulation.

"It took 3.5 hours to go through my RSS feeds, which are getting filled with more and more cruft, including webspam disguised as "news"."The above recording (around midday until the afternoon) covers patents with emphasis on EPO matters. It took 3.5 hours to go through my RSS feeds, which are getting filled with more and more cruft, including webspam disguised as "news".

This article is a short text summary, which does in fact require a detailed media survey but covers the key points. The video ends with a spontaneous rant, a statement about the lack of actual journalism regarding patents (except one example from RNZ in New Zealand). I think this rant is very much needed, e.g. to show the media blackout regarding EPO affairs, not to mention a monopoly on UPC narrative (lies). As an associate of ours put it some hours ago, "the media blackout on EPO coverage is a very large barrier to any type of reform. There has not even been any news in mainstream media or the tech press about the strike."

"The patent litigation 'industry' has in effect hijacked a lot of so-called 'media' and it lets that echo chamber commandeer the Web, steering people -- including elected politicians -- into the kingdom of lies."A lot of people might wonder, what's the point making such long videos? Well, previously I spent about half a day on Sundays going through hundreds of such items, writing a textual rebuttal to most if not all of them. At some point it became evident that the signal-to-noise ratio had become so low that it was almost infeasible to find proper journalism and it felt like poor use of time. In the form of a video the response is more rapid and expressive. Many items relate to one another and the video above attempts to cluster them together (along the lines of themes, dates, and sources/publishers). It shows how EPO management relentlessly pushes UPC agenda and how Team UPC is basically copy-pasting the same lies over and over again, probably in an effort to give a bunch of distortion the veneer of legitimacy.

You criticised EPO?Regarding the funding sources of publishers, those too get mentioned. The patent litigation 'industry' has in effect hijacked a lot of so-called 'media' and it lets that echo chamber commandeer the Web, steering people -- including elected politicians -- into the kingdom of lies.

Given the high level of interest in this series (thus far at least) we intend to carry on every weekend. The key points will be summarised in textual form after the recordings.
