Days after we delivered that inaugural review, we found out DeviceVM was in talks with OEMs about shipping SplashTop on desktops and notebooks.

In addition to the instant-on Linux excitement this week for the HP Envy 133, Dell is apparently working on a similar Linux solution. Engadget has shared details surrounding the Dell E and E Slim.
The Chumby runs on Linux and is designed with both software and hardware hacking in mind - offering almost unlimited flexibility.
Overall, I find Mandriva Linux One Spring 2008 to be a very cohesive distro. I lament the fact that most of the major distros have given KDE second-class status and focus most of their development and utilities for Gnome. The fourth annual Red Hat Summit is expected to draw as many as 1,200 customers and vendors -- about 15% more than last year -- to Boston next week. The convention takes place June 18 through June 20 at the Hynes Convention Center.

This purposeful design decision allows one to repurpose certain applets as "things that cover my screen" or "things that appear in a panel" (to name but two possibilities).
If you are a school, ignore Becta's project, ignore Becta, and seek advice from the people who are able to give it. Any of the organisations Becta rejected will be your best choice.
If you are a member of the Open Source community or industry not yet touched by this scandal, boycott the project and refuse to have anything to do with it. It's not about 'Open Source', it's about jobs for the boys, spin, and discrediting non-proprietary software.
If you are anyone else, throw your hands up in despair at yet more political sleaze, cronyism and incompetence, and vote for someone other than the current government at the next election, preferably someone with policies on Open Source and Open Government.
Linux is the only OS designed and equipped with Education in mind. Edubuntu, a flavor of Linux, is designed with the classroom in mind. It comes preinstalled with education software and applications that suit students of all grade levels, and even has some handy applications for the teacher too.
