Hard(er) Times at Apple
WE DON’T typically write about Apple, but this quick post is intended to point out that the company which occasionally attacks Free software [1, 2] (sometimes with patents [1, 2]) is far from omnipotent. It’s feeling the pinch and getting the lynch.
A recent article by the Wall Street Journal said that even Apple is beginning to suffer in this year’s dismal holiday season, as if it expected the outfit to be immune to the woes of the economy.
IDG covered this too and the BBC wrote about Apple’s “ditching” of Macworld, which even Steve Jobs won’t attend this time around.
Is 2009 going to mark the end of Macworld Expo? Apple has turned its back on the annual pilgrimage: Steve Jobs won’t be giving the keynote in January, and it’ll be the last time the company exhibits.
On their way are more technical problems as well.
OSX upgrade crashes Macs
APPLE which bases mucho of its marketing on the fact that its rivals crash a lot, has just released an update for its Mac OS X that… er, crashes a lot.
There are good alternatives to those who look for them.

Recently one of the keepers of the Ubuntu software repositories said that Wine was working well enough to include with Ubuntu.
As the famous saying goes, “we live in interesting times.” Microsoft suffers a lot too, so it passes its burden to so-called 'pirates'. That is helping Free software. █

Harder times at Apple may mean harder times also for those who aren’t just coding some meaningless crap applications but are actually trying to do something creative musically. It’s very hard to find a competitor for the combination of OS X and Logic 8 in the terms of stability and usability. Please, don’t run away with the idea of recommending Ardour and Jack to me. I compiled every single version of the software myself 2 years, tried out and tested but the results weren’t satisfactory at all.
