This Month's Linux Foundation Newsletter Does More Promotion of Linux Rivals (Such as Zephyr) Than of Linux Itself
THE Linux project (kernel.org) is either at dawn or at sunset. The sunlight is missing. The staff of the Linux Foundation, including Greg Kroah-Hartman (K-H), will tell you there's no problem here. How convenient for those who get over $300,000 per annum from Jim Zemlin...
Jason Perlow (formerly Microsoft, IBM, now Linux Foundation) has just promoted this latest (this month's) "Linux Foundation Newsletter". I've looked through the whole thing and it's a lot of openwashing-type marketing, salesmanship, events (more sales), and "LF Research" (PR). There is more coverage there of Zephyr (a rival of Linux) than of Linux itself. It's not that Linux isn't mentioned at all (the real Linux rather than the brand). There's "Linux Kernel Maintainer Summit," somewhere along the list at the top, and further down it says "Watch the replay! Demystifying the Linux Kernel Security Process Mentor: Greg Kroah-Hartman, Kernel Maintainer & Fellow, The Linux Foundation" (yes, he works for Zemlin). But about 96% of the text isn't about Linux at all. The same is true for funding of the kernel. Brand dilution is a widely recognised attack vector and tactic of abuse. Corporate imposters have been put in charge. Why blindly accept this? It's a real risk to GNU/Linux as a whole, not just the kernel. A few years ago Mr. Perlow openly said we should expect his employer, the 'Linux' Foundation, to also promote rivals of Linux. His blog post created a bit of a stir at the time. Remember that Perlow attacks old people like Richard Stallman (based on no actual substance) and he worked for Microsoft. These are the people who promote newsletters about "Diversity, equity, and inclusion" (about 10% of the latest newsletter) and Codes of Censorship. It's an extension of the community-shaming strategy. Corporations good, volunteers unruly and very, very dangerous! Just follow the money and obey orders from "the man".
For the record: the US is a very superstitious country compared to European countries. It's almost as bad as the Philippines in this regard. Spirits, rituals, chiropractors instead of real doctors. This is an obstacle to medical and scientific advancement. Now we have this in GNOME, i.e. the desktop (the G in GNOME is GNU).
There is a correct perception in Western countries that business and political leaders 1) aren't suitably qualified and 2) are put there by intention as they're easier for "elites" above them to control (e.g. remove based on lack of skills or some scandals, either present or past). It has also become a real problem in the tech world where, let's say, the self-appointed security "experts" are anything but experts (in anything) but they over-fill themselves with brimming confidence while promoting Microsoft lock-down as "security" (they don't even have suitable academic background) . Maybe for Americans it seems "normal" or "OK" for some "ritual" person to run the GNOME Foundation and some failing marketing bunny to run the "Linux" Foundation. But those people will end up puppets of corporations that want them there. They don't like strong or charismatic leaders as they're harder to control, they're less predictable. █
