Rejecting Terms Designed to Confuse and Bias People's Perception
THIS recent debate with Dr. Stallman (earlier this month!) had him insisting that the term "cloud computing" or "the cloud" ought not even be mentioned as it leads to what he calls "confusion".
Watch this video and skip to around 39:00.
He makes the point reasonably well and goes on... and on, encouraging people to just completely reject and avoid the term.
About a decade ago he suggested to me that, even when I merely quote some news sites, I ought to change "Linux" to "GNU/Linux"... unless it's about the kernel alone. That would be a huge amount of work, I explained to him, basically rewriting what others people wrote. But he persevered.
So today I finally did this, algorithmically, for Daily Links. Some recent changes:
-e "s/Cloud Computing/Clown Computing/g" \ -e "s/cloud computing/clown computing/g" \ -e "s/Cloud computing/Clown computing/g" \ -e "s/Cloud Storage/Clown Storage/g" \ -e "s/cloud storage/clown storage/g" \ -e "s/Cloud storage/Clown storage/g" \ -e "s/ AI / Hey Hi (AI) /g" \ -e "s/ Red Hat / Red Bait /g" \ -e "s/ Twitter / Ex-Twitter /g" \ -e "s/ TikTok / Fentanylware (TikTok) /g" \ -e "s/Linux Foundation/'Linux' Foundation/g" \ -e "s/ Github/ Microsoft's proprietary prison GitHut/g" \ -e "s/ GitHub/ Microsoft's proprietary prison GitHut/g" \ -e "s/ Facebook / Facebook (Farcebook) /g" \ -e "s/ Salesforce / Salesfarce /g" \ -e "s/ LinkedIn / Microsoft's Surveillance Arm LinkedIn /g" \ -e "s/ Linux / GNU\/Linux /g" \ -e "s/ Xi / Pooh-tin /g" \
The space are there as I am careful not to automatically change the wrong thing/s.
I will push this to Git quite soon. This is still experimental. █
