Microsoft Just Before the Weekend: We Got Cracked and It's Miles Worse Than We Told You Before
Of course they also blame "Russia", not the holes (and they demonise source code, as if possession of source code implies imminent security hazards)
THIS must have been predictable, as we've seen this modus operandi so many times before.
So it's Saturday morning here and in some parts of the US it's still Friday night (again, like before). Microsoft has "patch Tuesday" and "cover-up Friday"...
Remember when Microsoft admitted it had been cracked and was quick to blame some vilified actors rather than blame itself? It was a long weekend and they kept waiting until quiet periods before saying what they had already known for days. So yes, they procrastinated, at risk to customers, just for PR purposes, or for "damage limitation" so to speak.
Now notice the focus or obsession with "source code" (which would not mean anything if it was Free software; anyone is free to access, modify and even independently redistribute it):
Remember how Microsoft downplayed this at the time, an associate has remarked. Now that some time has passed, and the incident forgotten from the press, the story begins to change...
Anyway, to paraphrase this associate, Microsoft is shifting the blame away from their own shoddy practices and products. Microsoft minions are seeming to generate massive FUD about source code, probably as a distraction from Bruce Perens' announcement. █
