Bing Has Run Out of Time and Microsoft Might Dismantle It (Save a Financial Miracle)
How much more of investors' money is Microsoft willing to throw in the trash?
In 2023 there were mass layoffs in Bing (“lying feverishly in bed”). That's a fact. The media didn't report much on it (barely at all!), but it actually happened.
In Europe, since the chatbots hype, Bing actually lost market share according to statCounter. In North America it gained nothing and in much of the world any gains (if any at all!) are minuscule. Meanwhile the costs of running Bing went up by a lot, many executives left, offices were shut down, and Bing proxies like DuckDuckGo perished further because people found out those were just Microsoft surveillance disguised as "privacy".
Microsoft does not report revenue and income for Bing alone, so it is difficult to assess just how much money Microsoft loses on it. Given that Oracle has just canned its ad business (it was a disaster) and given the "bubble" nature of all that, it is hard to imagine Bing existing for much longer, specially after the LLM bubble bursts entirely.
"The extinguishing of Bing would be a boon to the world," an associate has said. It seems like a matter of time, only time. █
