A bad day...
Sometimes you just have a bad day, but lately I'm having more and more of them. They all seem related with my work and a growing pressure I'm feeling regarding my tasks. Everywhere it seems pressure to perform and "get better" is rising in a time where automation should make us work -less-. There is also a load more bullshit going on these days.

Fading Voices
Having heard your fathers voice all your life, you think you will never forget how it sounds. You take it for granted; he was always there for you with soothing advice when you needed it or with silly jokes sometimes (when you needed that, too). And he called regularly on the phone and left a message whenever you couldn't answer. Suddenly you realize that it's not him doing the calls anymore but his wife, and then you realize that it must have been the early stages of dementia keeping him from being himself. Now in his later stages he forgot how to talk almost completely. He wouldn't know how to speak the words, and I'm unsure whether he knows what to say anyway.

Have a good day, Amanda (a flash fiction)
The sky was deep blue when Amanda woke up just after 11 a.m. The sun was shining high above her lakeside cottage.
She emerges from the cottage, in a leisurely stride, to a grassy meadow full of colors: the wildflowers are in full bloom, in purple, pink, blue, yellow, and white. There are distant songs of birds coming from the nearby woods. It is so serene, far from the noises of the big city; she can even hear the tiny splashes of the lake.

Chicken report 2
It's been a minute, and new going ons have been going on at the coop. So grab a snack and something to drink, it's time for another
[...]
Of the 10 chickens that had hatched from the other 3 hens, only one survived. This is the hardest part of breeding chickens. I took pains to keep them safe from predators, and they ended up dying with the heat wave. I kept seeing them look sick and eventually die withing a few hours. The last remaining chick out of that disaster, however, is alive and kicking, and he gets to go out for a couple hours before sunset.

Reverse DNS
Most folks won't need to know about reverse DNS; it is relevant for SMTP and some other protocols I've forgotten about, and most people aren't running SMTP servers these days (or really ever in the grand scheme of things).

hello, keyboard of shallow depth
I am using the laptop. *As* a laptop, instead of my old mechanical keyboard, for the first time in...hell bloody ages, my love. Had to say the last part because I just saw a Johnny Rotten interview, and his pompus style-forward fake attitude. So....yea
I can see myself typing. Out of writing experience. I have nothing of interest to say, just to say it. Typing is the name of the rose.

How to mount ISO or file disk images on OpenBSD
If you ever happen to mount a .iso file on OpenBSD, you may wonder how to proceed as the command `mount_cd9660` requires a device name.
While the solution is entirely documented into man pages and in the official FAQ, it may not be easy to find it at first glance, especially since most operating system allow to mount an iso file in a single step where as OpenBSD requires an extra step.

A working class blogger is something to be
Fun performance for my wife and I early yesterday evening at a block party of sorts across the river from us.
It was extra special for her, occuring in her hometown, thus seeing faces vaguely familiar beneath time orchestrated skin degradations. I recognized a few for having been out and about the environs for a year or so.
Part of its success was people were seated instead of milling about, another part that the vast majority of the crowd was our age or half a generation older, so songs that filled the days of their youth just so happen to be our wheelhouse. I saw the words "Oh my God!" mouthed several times, no doubt for hearing something they possibly haven't in decades.
