Microsoft's Bing Share in Canada Has Only Decreased Since the LLM Hype ("Bing Chat")
In a lot of the world, maybe even in the majority of the world's nations, Microsoft lost rather than gained search engine share. That's despite sinking untold billions of dollars (pure loss; it's extremely inefficient!), not to mention water and energy, i.e. boiling the planet to churn away at other people's servers (getting "training" data without consent) and then fake Azure "demand" by 'investing' in Open [sic] Hey Hi (AI), i.e. burning about 10 billion dollars' "worth" of Azure "credits". What a scam.
Here's how that worked out in Canada:
Notice how Open [sic] Hey Hi (AI) was down 60% last month. As the recent (and upcoming) Daily Links explain, the LLM bubble is ending or "popping". Only NVIDIA profited (a lot) from it.
As "The mainstreaming of 'AI' scepticism" puts it, "anybody who hadn’t become a sceptic about LLMs and diffusion models by the end of 2023 was just flat out wilfully ignoring the facts. The public has for a while now switched to using “AI” as a negative – using the term “artificial” much as you do with “artificial flavouring” or “that smile’s artificial”. It’s insincere creativity or deceptive intelligence."
Another new take says: "I myself have formal training as a data scientist, going so far as to dominate a competitive machine learning event at one of Australia's top universities and writing a Master's thesis where I wrote all my own libraries from scratch. I'm not God's gift to the field, but I am clearly better than most of my competition - that is, practitioners who haven't put in the reps to build their own C libraries in a cave with scraps, but can read textbooks and use libraries written by elite institutions."
Finally, another upcoming link: "Now, with LLMs, a search result isn’t a search result. An image isn’t an image. A video isn’t a video."
It's just a sea of low-quality garbage in large quantities. No, thanks!
We're going to see many more debunkings and prebunkings of corporate "Hey Hi" propaganda. Their bribed media operatives and shills cannot keep up with facts, including people's direct experience. Ask McDonalds how "Hey Hi" worked out for it. McDonalds has just dumped it completely. █
