Good News About GNU/Linux, Geminispace, FSF, and Backlash Against Microsoft
WITH more outdoor time, owing primarily to the good weather (Friday will be the same), we've not found much time to post articles today, but here are a few quick takes:
- GNU/Linux is up again (earlier today) in statCounter's assessment of usage (globally). Before too long GNU/Linux will be estimated at 4.5% (on desktops/laptops).
- In Geminispace, the Linux Foundation's fake security ploy is losing its foothold. Let's Encrypt has fallen from 4.2% to 4.1% in a day. About 3 more capsules abandoned it (net loss, maybe more than 3). To quote Lupa: "2517 (90.7 %) capsules are self-signed, 113 (4.1 %) use the Certificate Authority Let's Encrypt, 146 (5.3 %) are signed by another CA (may be not a trusted one)."
- With the initial deadline ending later tomorrow (Friday), it looks like about 150 new FSF members have been secured, rather than 200 as per the original goals (deadline can be extended though). That's still quite impressive. People can still join.
- Finally, there are many articles (as we hoped) about Microsoft pouring cold water on "DEI"; some activists now harm the company's "brand". Microsoft never cared about them.
Let's see what the rest of the week has in store. █
