Using FUD That Blames "Linux" for Typos, Turning It Into LLM Slop That Blames "Linux" for Typos

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Mar 12, 2025

Some days ago we caught half a dozen new examples of "Linux" being blamed for typosquatting and, perhaps using these as a training set, the slopfarm linuxsecurity.com made a permutation or two to manifest some more FUD, this time computer-generated slop: (potpourri of words)

Understanding a New Typosquatting Menace in Linux

Almost for sure (100% probability) LLM slop? The usual? Yes.

Recent discoveries by Socket have exposed an elaborate typosquatting campaign targeting Linux and macOS developers through similar-sounding names for Go packages.

LLM slop lessens the incentive to do good journalism (you must compete with garbage), so the quality of journalism is becoming lower and lower and this erosion is then fed back - along with slop - into slop machines. At each generation or iteration we drift further away from the truth.

We gave more examples from linuxsecurity.com yesterday. It is probably the "leader" at LLM slop (fake 'articles') about "Linux".
