Microsoft's Trouble in Africa and Asia
According to this populations breakdown page (last updated approximately half a year ago), "Asia is the most populous continent in the world, with 4.81 billion people accounting for nearly 58.89% of the world population as of 2024. Africa is the second most largest continent by population, with around 1.52 billion people, or 18.56% of the world's population."
There are also uncounted people in villages that are disjoint or remote. So when talking about those two continent we're talking about around 77.45% of the world's population. Probably closer to 80% (many in India, Indonesia, China and so on aren't counted).
How is Microsoft doing there?
Not well.
Looking at the statistics published earlier this morning, Windows is down to about 12% in general - an all-time low in Africa. This is Africa's "split" for monopoly OS and freedom OS (GNU/Linux):
Notice the trend. A new all-time high for GNU/Linux.
It's more or less the same in Asia: (where GNU/Linux is up sharply in desktops/laptops)
In Central African Republic Windows is now measured at only about 0.5%. Microsoft isn't just a "dying breed" but a dead breed in some parts of Africa. █
