Home made board
Progress was delayed a lot on the home-built analog computer, due to busyness with other things, lack of funds, and delays trying to figure out what was wrong with the comparator design. Eventually I just gave up on that (the comparator). I didn't want to do more troubleshooting until I had some fresh analog switch chips, thinking I might have damaged the two I had, but I can't afford another order right now.
I did wire up another open-amplifier/invert module. So, if I skip the comparator, I can proceed with getting the board wired up to the patch panel I made. I ran short on banana jacks, as the pack I bought had only 40 and I have 48 holes on the panel. Fortunately I have another eight on hand, but they are a different model that is too small for the holes I drilled, so I'll need to see if I have enough washers available to make that work.

Another month off the internet
Complicated changes of circumstances have resulted from a process I'm in little control over. I have been moving or, I might almost say, displaced.
A few years ago I experienced an unexpected, involuntary internet outage which lasted a month. Now I've experienced it again. After several attempts to reach the internet provider, I finally got a phone number to their technical services and, after having waited a few hours in the queue, at last, I got some helpful advice. It turned out there was no wifi router installed, as there should have been, but I was able to connect the old way via wire. So much better, anyway, except that the cable is too short to allow for much appreciated flexibility.

A month without internet
For readers who might allow themselves to complain about the internet, and the bloated web in particular, here are some thoughts about being shut out from all of it for a while.
One week before Christmas the internet connection mysteriously ceased to work, and exactly one month later the access was restored, as unexpectedly as it was turned off. Thus the outage was neither deliberate nor desired. At least it occured in a time of the year when little of importance happens anyway.
After a few days of frustration, since my habits include spending a lot of time reading articles and participating on forums or publishing material to my own website or gemini capsule, the frustration gradually turned towards the impracticality of lacking access to email, not being able to pay bills (oh, isn't that fun), and potentially missing work-related opportunities. Finally, I had to resort to public libraries to check my email, with strict time limits and even fewer PCs available than usual due to covid restrictions. It turned out that my fear of missing out was baseless; only one or two emails were of a more personal nature and, although there had been an intense debate on a mailing list that I follow, nothing of it was urgent or even very interesting.
