BOOK OF LIFE
A quick post before I go back to making a mess of my car, attempting various servicing tasks. Somehow the ones I've done many times before never seem to come free of mistakes for me. If anything I fall into the trap of over-confidence and mess things up even more.
Having finished a day's spanner-hammering, hair bathed in dirt and oil, I'm still going back to reading Seven Pillars of Wisdom. I'm near the end now, in the last "book", although reading less frequently because the weather has become too cold to sit upright for reading on most nights. So of course, head filled with knowledge of guerrilla warfare and camel husbandry, I'm looking to the next book on which to feast my eyes.
Continuing in the spirit of adventure I was thinking of The Kontiki Expedition, in part just so I can finally watch the movie since I've skipped it when shown on TV in order to read the book first. However as academically interesting as these non-finction works are, I wonder if reading them serves me best. I already avoid fictional works in order to gain some true knowledge of the world from my reading, but really how far does this knowledge advance me? To someone with the security of wealth it's an equal advancement to obtain any such accurate knowledge, yet here I seem to struggle with every practical task I set myself. With tasks I set myself in order to make money, and as often with tasks I must complete myself due to no capacity for spending money (or skill in finding paid people to do what I want properly anyway).

Rivers
So the peeps on the ##roguelikedev channel have been trying to procgen rivers, which can be as complicated as you want to make it. Not having a few billion years to get it right, one will often go with something "good enough" and call it done.

Pyotr Wrangel — Always with Honor
I’m still trying to figure out how much I should be getting out of this. Books aren’t like video games — you can just keep on going without understanding what’s going on.

Dragging Myself Kicking and Screaming Into the Future
I'm not one to typically jump at the opportunity to dive headfirst into the latest and greatest technology trends. But, after being surrounded by coworkers and friends who swear by the benefits of AI in their development workflows, I finally decided to take the plunge. I set out to install an LLM (Large Language Model) on my local machine, mostly out of curiosity and a desire to form a more informed opinion.
The process, to my surprise, was remarkably straightforward. I managed to get Llama-CPP up and running in a matter of hours, with minimal fuss and no major hiccups. The online resources available were more than sufficient to address any questions or concerns I had along the way. I have to admit, I was expecting a steeper learning curve, but it seems that even I can drag myself into the future.
As I begin to explore the capabilities of my newly installed LLM, I'm starting to see the potential for real-world applications. I'm interested in using AI to augment my development workflow, as well as to explore more creative and artistic uses of the technology. But let me be clear: I have no intention of surrendering my data or using large-scale AI services run by major tech companies. I'm committed to keeping my AI usage local and decentralized, and I'm excited to see the possibilities that this approach offers.

f3s: Kubernetes with FreeBSD - Part 5: WireGuard mesh network
This is the fifth blog post about my f3s series for my self-hosting demands in my home lab. f3s? The "f" stands for FreeBSD, and the "3s" stands for k3s, the Kubernetes distribution I will use on FreeBSD-based physical machines.
I will post a new entry every month or so (there are too many other side projects for more frequent updates — I bet you can understand).
