On Microsoft Layoffs
There are still many headlines about Microsoft layoffs. Microsoft wants to change that. It is trying to change the subject. The media likes to focus on games and studios that produce games. However, based on comments we see, the Microsoft layoffs are far more wide-ranging.
We estimate that since January 2025 about 29,000 people were let go, not counting people who left on their own (two family members of mine left Intel on their own, they won't count as "layoffs"). By the end of this year, given rumours about many more Microsoft as soon as next month, we might be looking at about 60,000 Microsoft layoffs since 2023. The headcount number will always be misleading because of in-sourcing, offshoring etc. Microsoft - like IBM - knows how to "massage" those numbers to signal "business as usual" to shareholders. We wrote many articles about this topic.
The reasons why Microsoft has these issues aren't a mystery. It's not an enigma. Look what happened to Skype. Look at Outlook going offline again (globally). They're running low on "skilled" staff and make stuff up about "talent". █
