Cars Getting Worse and More Lethal
In this week's news:
What does it mean to "own" a car?
I say, where and when?
Mostly the latter (2025), though it also matters where your car is. From the news this week
Welcome to the bitter reality of "modern" cars. A lot of the full, true cost remains hidden. Cars got more expensive, bigger (a threat to "short" humans and dogs, not just a fuel consumption problem), and generally detrimental to human rights. They call you "dumb" if you don't get the "smart" ones.
Many people choose to ignore the cost of MOT, parking, insurance, repairs, petrol etc. They only think of the cost of a purchase of the vehicle itself, also conveniently ignoring how short a lifespan the "modern" cars have (spare parts are harder to get and increased complexity means buying "anew" is eventually a lot cheaper, even if it is very expensive). I will soon need to renew my licence to drive; that too will cost money, even if I don't drive.
Cars were considered a luxury 100 years ago. Cars are considered a luxury right now because instead of making automobiles that everyone with a family can afford (e.g. with loan financing) we've steered away from Ford and went full Tesla (Fraud, not Ford). █
"Progress."
