More IBM Layoffs in India
IBM isn't controlled by India, IBM uses Indians (and critics of the management are presumed racist).
In IBM's Board, only 3 out of 13 members are female and only one is from India (Arvind, which they call "Alvind" above).
An hour ago: (Bengaluru, Karnataka, India)
This morning in IRC, in light of new policies about or regarding visas, the subject of imported workforce was brought up (it is also discussed in relation to IBM layoffs this week).
The elephant in the room is India because, at least in the US, the lion's share of tech-related work visas get granted to Indians. That's not an exaggeration. Those are hard facts. Sometimes, instead, large tech firms outsource a considerable chunk of the word to India and it's about costs and control.
Once imported, 1. you pay them less (or fewer promotions); 2. they would do almost anything, they can be deported if they don't; 3. no whistleblowing; 4. no unions; 5. divide and rule (employees fight one another, not the management).
However, lately we've noticed that IBM was firing many people based in India. It's hard to ignore this because it goes against the hot narrative of "replaced by Indians" rather than "replaced by AI" or something to the same effect.
If IBM cannot afford to retain workers in India, then something is truly "out of control" at IBM. █
