The Record ☛ Russia claims foreign spy agencies [breached] officials' phones
In a statement, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had uncovered what it described as a "large-scale operation" involving malicious software installed on the mobile devices of senior Russian officials. The agency alleged the malware was used to extract data, intercept communications and conduct covert audio and video surveillance.
The agency claimed foreign intelligence services carried out the operation "using the technical capabilities of major international IT corporations and mobile communication technologies."

Tracy Durnell ☛ Reimagining mobile
Our mobile devices could reduce to key fobs or clip-ons the size of an iPod shuffle (all it really needs is a mobile chip, Bluetooth, mic, speakers, and power), and everyone choose their own peripheral devices based on the functions they want: smart watch / band, headphones / earbuds, video screen or e-ink, camera, game console.

Joshua Blais ☛ It's always been the damn phone
Back in 2014, I was on a cruise with family (boomer parents, I don’t actually like cruises) - and I did not have my phone or internet access for 17 days. This was in the time when internet access out at sea was exorbitantly expensive, and we just forewent connectivity.
For the first few days, it wasn’t easy. I would look at my disconnected phone expecting a text message or Facebook notification to spring up. When they didn’t I let the phone die and put it away in a drawer for the rest of the trip. I pulled out a book I had brought, not really thinking I would read it.
Then, something happened.

It's FOSS ☛ I Tried This Open Source ChatGPT Alternative on Linux, But Went Back to Ollama
Recently, I discovered Jan AI. It is a polished, genuinely usable desktop app that runs entirely on my machine. In fact, I once tried replacing Ollama and llama cpp with Jan AI, but later changed my mind.

Assaf Arkin ☛ I Got $4.84 From a Class Action Settlement and They Really, Really Didn't Want Me to Have It
Now look — I'm not out here complaining about free money. But nobody sends you $4.84 on a restricted debit card because they're hoping you'll enjoy it. They send it that way because they're betting you'll give up before you figure out how to spend it.

wishlist
so i messed up a little bit... i started with recording everything on paper but then i forgot and kind of did what i always do - open stuff in tabs and close them when it's not relevant anymore. so this record will be incomplete, but i'll do my best to fill it out and track it going forward. also you might notice from the purchases post that not all the things that were purchased actually came from the wishlist and that's a-ok, i think? the wishlist is to limit impulse purchases and i think it's doing its job very well.

Email with aerc, pass, gpg and khard - Modern Email in the Terminal
I mentioned aerc in my post "Living in the terminal" [1] and have just realized that I didn't write a post on installing and configuring aerc. This setup provides a fast, keyboard-driven mail experience with contacts accessible from the command line.

Submitting to New Antenna Info
Update: I just received info that OG Antenna is gone for good, a month earlier than planned. It was self-hosted from home and the server’s memory stick showed storage corruption. So it won’t come back online, meaning warmedal.se seizes to exist. I bid ew0k farewell and wish him all the best.
Because the OG Antenna has been down since 2026-05-31 13:27:23 UTC, I’d like to remind people having trouble submitting to new Antenna, that the URLs for submissions are different from OG Antenna, and that the feed URLs are more thoroughly checked.
