Why Support Daniel Pocock
Polling stations have opened. Some people can vote for a Free software person, Daniel Pocock, even just as a token of support (he's not likely to win; the incumbent bigot, Farage, is more or less guaranteed a win by a landslide, a massive margin). Pocock's aim isn't to beat the bigot but to show that an alternative exists. Media in New Zealand (RNZ) has just given publicity/visibility to his campaign/platform.
Longtime readers of Techrights have a rough idea as to why we support Daniel Pocock (and the likes of him), not merely that we support him. We wrote a great deal about it in the past.
Daniel Pocock isn't the only person in that category and to avoid assumptions (about what readers know) we'll repeat very quickly the importance of what Daniel Pocock does.
In a nutshell, there are censorious and malicious elements not just in the Free software movement but in particular GAFAM (US) funded or salaried front groups like 'FSFE', 'SFC' (both are copycats), and many others.
Our readers who come from IBM and the EPO are certainly familiar with the tactics of censorship and what that sort of censorship leads to.
Daniel Pocock has basically found the courage to penetrate taboo areas and show what plutocrats (sometimes operating or appearing as footsoldiers) are doing to us. Of course he'll be demonised and abused for 'daring' to do this.
The world needs to be properly informed; many press outlets go against that. Their core business model is to repeat mindless lies, including slop jingoism (like "AI era", "AI arms race", "AI revolution" and so on). █
